Riding the Gondola Sheep at the Agrodome

Family Fun in Rotorua

You and your family will find plenty of things to see and do in Rotorua – rain or shine!

If you’ve got young children, visit the Agrodome, a real 300 acre working sheep and cattle farm which invites the public to experience the Kiwi farming phenomenon. The popular Agrodome Sheep Show (three shows daily) features nineteen breeds of sheep, an exciting sheep-shearing demonstration with audience participation, the opportunity to hand-milk a cow or hand-feed a lamb on stage, a demonstration by huntaway dogs, the famous ‘Duck’ dog, plus a dog trial with three sheep and a ‘Strong Eye’ dog. This is the perfect Rotorua attraction for families!

If you’re visiting Rotorua with older children, experience Rotorua Bungy Jumping, the Swoop, Body-flying and the famous Zorb, all at the Agrodome. The Agrodome is also home to the Agrojet – New Zealand’s fastest jet boat ride! Reach speeds of 100 kph in just four seconds, around a purpose-built race course.

Venture across the road to Skyline Skyrides and race each other down the track on the luge, one of Rotorua’s well-known activities. As the name suggests, Skyline Skyrides offers you a stunning gondola ride to the peaks of Mount Ngongotaha. To get back to ground level, you can board your own luge and either cruise leisurely or hurtle down the various luge tracks. There are over five kilometres of downhill tracks to ride and scenic, intermediate and advanced luge track levels. These three wheeled carts provide great family fun on a fine Rotorua day.

If you’re interested in meeting some of New Zealand’s wildlife, Rainbow Springs Nature Park and Paradise Valley Springs Wildlife Park provide the perfect opportunity. At Rainbow Springs Nature Park, feed the trout, meet the ancient reptile, the tuatara, or get to know the kiwi at the Kiwi Encounter.

At Paradise Valley Springs Wildlife Park, visit at 2.30pm for feeding time of the pride of wild lions. You can even pat gorgeous lion cubs when available (and have your photo taken with them). Like Rainbow Springs Nature Park, Paradise Valley Springs also has a great range of trout, birdlife and wildlife, set in native bush.

On a wet day in Rotorua, take a Duck Tour out on the lake. Rotorua’s Duck Tour’s six-wheel-drive landing crafts are able to travel on land and water, providing a unique way to experience Rotorua's spectacular lakes. Another great rainy day activity is a trip to the Polynesian Spa, for a soak in one of the naturally heated mineral pools. The family pool offers a large freshwater chlorinated pool, with a toddler’s section and a small hydro slide.
